King’s Highway

Verse 1

Born in Bethlehem to a carpenter and his wife

No place for them to go, He rested in a manger that night

Angels told the shepherds, wise men followed a star

A king in borrowed straw, with heaven not far

They fled to Egypt to escape the king’s fear

A child on the road before the road was clear

A boy in the temple who already knew whose house he was in

He learned the trade, he worked with Joseph’s hands

Grew in wisdom and the favor of God across the land

Chorus

He rode the King’s highway to show us the way

He paved a road to glory, a road that leads to heaven

A road to show us which way to go

To follow His path and not get lost along the way

He paid the price in blood so we could make it home

He paid the toll at mercy’s door

So, ride the King’s highway to heaven’s gate

Verse 2

He painted the lines of the road straight and true

Don’t live in anger, don’t live in lust

Love the ones who hurt you, and pray for them too

Give and pray in secret, don’t put on a show

Don’t store your life in money, don’t trust a religious show

The narrow gate is the one that leads to life

Love God with all you have, love your neighbor as yourself

Forgive, because you’ve been forgiven

Verse 3

The last miles of the highway were the hard stretch of the road

He was struck and spit on, and flogged before the crowd

A crown of thorns pressed on His head

Mocked as He carried a cross, He could not hold

Nailed through the wrists and the feet

He hung in the heat while the passers mocked

He spoke a word of forgiveness

Then a cry of being forsaken

And the toll was paid

Bridge

They laid Him in a tomb before the daylight died

The stone was sealed, the women waited through the night

But Sunday morning the grave was open wide

He rose as promised, the King was alive

The road to glory was open

The toll had been paid

So, ride the King’s highway

He already made the way

Outro / Final Chorus

He rode the King’s highway, that the grave could not hold

He paved a road to glory, the road is still open

No stone could seal it, no night could keep it closed

To follow His path is to walk a road already known

He paid the price in blood so we could make it home

He paid the toll at mercy’s door

Theres many exits along the way

So stay in your lane on the King’s highway

All the way to heaven’s gate
